Analysis:
This is a video that claims to show a ‘candid camera’ style of prank in a mailbox that went horribly wrong, resulting in killing of the prankster hidden in the mailbox. The message says that hidden camera shows were banned in Russia post this incident. Although the shocking incident in between prank looks real, it does not show the actual facts.
The video shows a hidden camera prank where a man hides himself inside a mailbox and throws out the mails posted by random people – as a surprise prank. However, an old man who happens to have the same experience, gets angry over it, takes out his gun and shoots inside the mailbox – in what appears to have killed the man inside. This is not what exactly happened. The video was originally produced by the advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather Argentina, as a “hidden camera fun” television commercial for the Type & Magic print production company. The video was not even Russian; it was shot in Argentina and was released in June 2000.

Therefore, the shocking incident depicted in the video in question is hoax, and is just a part of an advertisement whose ending part is not shown. The original video, as you can watch it here, advertises the Type & Magic product at the end – showing the text “We know you don’t like surprises.” and offering “TYPE & MAGIC Separations. Photochromes. No surprises.”
The claim that Russian hidden camera shows were banned after this incident is basically a prank – around a prank!
