Story:

On September 29, 2014, Texas Governor Rick Perry will be signing a new bill into law, legalizing medicinal and recreational use of marijuana for adults ages 21 or older.

Analysis:

The message shared widely online, especially on social media, states that Texas is going to permit medicinal and recreational use of Marijuana, and that Governor Rick Perry will be signing the new bill into law on 29 September 2014. No, it is not a fact!

These claims originated from a 19 Sep. 2014 article published on website NewsBuzzDaily.com with the same title. Along with the aforementioned claims, the article also mentioned that the Bill HB 2412, slated to boost Texas’ economy and lower criminal activity, will go into effect from 1 Jan. 2015. However, the Bill HB 2412 of Texas is a Transportation Code, not related to Marijuana use. Moreover, at the bottom of the NewsBuzzDaily website is a disclaimer that says, “NewsBuzzDaily.com is a combination of real shocking news and satire news. Please note that articles written on this site are for entertainment and satirical purposes only.”

As of this writing, Texas is not legalizing any medicinal or recreational use of marijuana. So it is conclusive that the story saying Texas is going to permit medicinal and recreational use of Marijuana is a hoax; the claim originated from a satirical website meant for entertainment only.

Hoax or Fact:

Hoax.
