The video in question appears to show an unusual incident, where two young men try to shoplift items in a convenience store and end up in a different fate altogether. As one diverts the attention of the store owner, the other gets busy in lifting the items on rack. Then comes another armed robber pointing gun at the owner. The two men hide quickly, give up their shoplifting plan and attack the armed robber, throwing him helpless on floor. One man takes the gun and hands it over to the store owner before both of them run away from the scene.

The video about the convenience store robbery garnered millions of views in early 2018 when it went viral on Twitter and other social media platforms. It keeps surfacing again in different versions and languages as many believe it is a real incident. Accompanying messages usually attribute the incident to somewhere inside the United States. The video also appears on some news outlets, suggesting the CCTV footage shows an unusual, legendary (failed) robbery.

The video in fact shows a staged incident created to promote the series ‘Five Points’ streaming on Facebook. Instagram page of the FivePointsShow shared the video on 9th February 2018 with a description mentioning “Craziest convenience store footage you’ve ever seen“. The description of the video also mentions Five Points High troublemaker CJ – a character in the series – saves the day. The Facebook page of Five Points carries the tagline, Welcome to Five Points High where everyone’s hiding something. Note, the end of the original video in fact mentions the name of the show Five Points, asking to see it only on Facebook Watch. The promo/credits part is deleted in the video circulating as real incident.
