Analysis:
A video shared heavily online, especially on social media sites and news outlets as well, claims to show a weather reporter girl being knocked out by a flying Fish off the shore. The interesting video has gone viral online soon, and as for the matter of fact, the girl getting hit by the fish is real, but the incident seems to be staged.
About the Video
The five-second funny clip seen in the video was filmed at Barry Island in Wales, and shows video blogger Aimee battling to report about stormy weather as waves are seen behind her. And as she shouts into a camera saying “I’m here at Barry Island beach and there’s no signs of …,” a fish flies out of the sea along with sudden splash of water and hits her in the face, knocking her down with the impact.
The video of girl getting knocked out by fish was posted online on 29 January 2016 on YouTube and Facebook page Kinging-It and has garnered millions of views since then. The YouTube video came with the caption – “When you’re trying to vlog and get hit by a fish…” and after it became very popular online, Aimee explained the same to Wales Online (walesonline.co.uk) saying “With Storm Gertrude trending on social media, it’s been quite popular and people have loved it.” However, there’s something fishy about the video as it is shown.
Actual Facts
Firstly, the video was posted to YouTube in ‘Comedy’ section by Craig & Aimee, who seem to travel around the world and publish various video logs (in the name of Kinging-It). The description of their Facebook page Kinging-It says “We’re breaking away from ‘reality’ and creating our own reality as we travel the world“.
A close look at the happenings in the video will certainly raise authenticity of the incident as is shown. After you see a wave at the shore far behind the ‘weather reporter’ girl, there comes sudden splash of water (shown as storm) over Aimee – from a position in front of her – and then comes the slippery flying fish to smash her down (see the series of pictures above). And once the girl is knocked down, the splash of water recedes all of a sudden. More importantly, the pattern of water falling over the girl appears in a definite, regular fashion (see picture above) to suggest that it might be coming from some kind of artificial water source. So there’s every possibility that someone threw the fish off camera and the incident is thus staged.
