Analysis:

The message comes with a picture of a press note suggesting that the AP State Dental Council has taken disciplinary action against six Dental Clinics in Andhra Pradesh, India – for Unethical Practices. Yes, the claim is a fact.

On 2 May 2013, the statutory body Andhra Pradesh State Dental Council (APSDC) has issued a press notice to six dental clinics in Andhra Pradesh state of India, for canvassing, putting up huge sign boards along roads and publicizing through press reports to lure patients. The registrar of APSDC, A Manikyam told that it is a violation of Dentists Code of Ethics. The picture that comes with the message shows a copy of this press notice. As mentioned in the message, the six dental clinics that were issued press notice are:

  • Partha Dental Care & all its branches.
  • Vasan Dental Care and all its branches.
  • Star Dental Experts, the branches at Eluru & Amalapuram.
  • Denty’s Superspeciality Hospital and all its branches.
  • Apollo Dental Spa and all its branches.
  • Dr. Bandlamudi Basaveswara Rao Dental Clinic in Vijayawada.

Manikyam said that they (APSDC) have issued notices to all these clinics, but the managements did not bother to respond to the notices, and are continuing their advertising campaigns to attract patients. As per the official guidelines, the state council first serves notices to clinics and practitioners involving in such unethical practices, and will later warn the clinics issuing an open, public statement in newspapers. If the clinics ignore this warning and continue their flouting norms, they will have to face serious action like de-registration of the clinic or suspension of the concerned practitioner from the membership of the dental council. In this case, he will not be allowed to do practice anywhere in the world.

People are advised not to get carried away by advertising campaigns of such health care systems. Health care is considered a sacred service; it should not turn into a business that can mislead or exploit people.

Hoax or Fact:

Fact.
