Other Versions

RBI released new currency notes of Rs 1000, 100, 50 and 20. Very colorfull. Have a look at it.

Fact Check:

Certain stories shared widely on social media sites and WhatsApp purport to show that Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released new currency notes of Rupees 1000, 100, 50 and 20 that are very colorful. No, the claims are not facts.

The new 1000 rupee note allegedly released by RBI looks quite similar in design to the 2000 rupee note released earlier post currency demonetization in November 2016. The 100 rupee note is shown in grey-white and orange color combinations. On the other hand, 50-note is shown in light magenta colour with image of Red Fort in background, and Rs 20 note is of green colour with picture of Mumbai’s Gateway of India. The claims, however, do not come with any credible citations, and authenticity of these new notes is not verified.

After the demonetization, the RBI has earlier reported that the banned Rs 1,000 note will return in a new avatar, and the other denomination of notes (Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50) will be reintroduced with new design and features. Later RBI proposed new Rs 200 banknotes to plug the paucity of lower denominations. But as of this writing, there is no news about the release of 1000, 100, 50 and 20 rupee notes, no official specimens are available, and there is no such notification on RBI website rbi.org.in. The print on the alleged new 100 rupee note does not even come with a clear background, and does not appear authentic.

So, the stories showing RBI released colorful, new Rs 20, 50, 100 and 1000 rupee notes are hoaxes.

Hoax or Fact:

Hoax.
