These messages circulating in various versions on Facebook and elsewhere online claim to offer a new ‘work from home program’ coming from the social media giant Facebook. Users are warned – these are not genuine offers; they are scams!
Claims
Some websites (like http://viptrk.com/fbreview/?cid=appsumu%20_Eleanor_men-CA-g35hew-p3) come up with claims that Facebook has launched a new ‘Work From Home’ program to allow users make money from the comfort of their own homes. To make their offer look authentic, like in the above case, the scammers usually come up with a phishing site, using Facebook logo, trying to look like a page in Facebook. Furthermore, the aforementioned website, whose home page does not exist, mentions quotes from Larry King Live/Bill Gates Live and Newsweek expressing the joy over this work from home program Facebook has started. In some cases, even the URL of the website mimics Facebook domain (for example, facebook.com-important-update.ninja). These are usually dubbed as the ‘Facebook Cash from Home Kit,’ ‘Facebook Millionaire Kit,’ or in some cases ‘Home Source for Money Kit,’ and are presented as easy work from home opportunities that include posting links, sharing stories, reviewing sites and others. Needless to say, they show prospects of big money gains. Note that these claims appear in various countries like Canada, India and Australia.

As of this writing, Facebook does not have a program that allows work from home opportunity for everyone. These are those offers that lure prospective hires into paying some fee for the ‘application processing’ — to buy a non-beneficial or non-existent financial kit. Apart from the initial fee, note that the unsuspecting user can also be automatically charged with high monies subsequently. Apart from this money grab, the scams can be designed to phish user information such as full names and email addresses, and also to hijack Facebook accounts and spread malware.
So do not be tempted to participate in this bogus work from home program that is said to come from Facebook. Be careful with online job offers mentioning popular companies like Facebook, Google and others. If you think you have accessed any such scam post or app on Facebook, change your Facebook password and remove suspicious Facebook apps.
