Story:
This facebook application in the name of “Facebook – Get Certified” shows itself as an application for official certification of facebook required for facebook users. The application gained good popularity on Facebook.
Analysis:
Surprisingly, this Facebook certification application has 31,476 likes till date. However, there is no such official Facebook certification till date. This application presents itself as an application for Facebook certification. But the fact is that the application is no way connected to official Facebook. No information has been provided in the info. section of the app, which clearly shows it is not an official Facebook application. The application in fact is a phishing scam and misleads users to generate click activity.

This ‘Get Certified’ Facebook application is cleverly built up to show ads, generate likes and increase click activity on the application profile. When the users liked the page, a security pop up shows up saying, “You have requested an encrypted page that contains some unencrypted information. Information that you see or enter on this page could easily be read by a third party,” which clearly shows that your information can also be pulled up by third party applications. The users are next asked to allow the application to post messages on your Facebook profile. Once allowed, users are redirected to application that again comes up with a pop up box saying, “Join the Developers Network to get updates to latest application launched. You can also share your ideas for new applications and get credits for the application.” This is another misleading activity which when clicked actually likes another Facebook profile named Pushe Bhullar, who is a Facebook application developer. The actual application again requests the users to click couple of ads on their profile. Only then they are redirected to a simple image showing a Facebook certificate in your name.

Therefore, the application “Facebook – Get Certified” is not an official Facebook application for certification, its only purpose is to generate clicks. Facebook users should not get carried away by such misleading applications. The Facebook users who access such misleading applications can remove these applications from their account profile. For this, they simply have to go to Account Settings, then choose Apps, and delete the particular application by clicking on the remove button shown as x.
