Analysis:

The Facebook event popularized heavily claims that a user can get a Sony Xperia mobile phone for free by simply inviting 50 friends to the page. Today we are going to analyze whether the claim is hoax or really fact.

About the Facebook Event

The Facebook event titled “Invite 50 friends and get a SONY XPERIA for FREE !!!” was created and hosted by ‘fun’ Facebook page “I am a laughter, problem ?” in August 2014. Soon another Facebook page meant for car lovers ‘Drifters 360‘ was also made the host of the event. The date of the event, i.e. giving away of the said prize is given as 1 January 2017.

Similar Event

Another similar Facebook event mentioned in the aforementioned event page is “Invite 50 friends and get a microsoft lumia 1030“. It is created and hosted by another Car lovers page ‘Lambo 360‘ in January 2015. The date of the event is given as 1 January 2020.

The Flaws

A Google search of the two Facebook event names will reveal that both of them are promoted in similar ways (see the screenshots below). More importantly, there are no details mentioned about the place of event or actual admin in either case. Sony Xperia mobile phone is available in various models (and price groups), the specific model giveaway is not mentioned in the first event as done in second case. And in both cases the so called contest, i.e. to invite 50 Facebook users, has been extended for years together. Then thinking that someone is going to give you a costly smartphone for mere inviting of 50 Facebook users to an event (with questionable details) does not make much sense.

So considering the above flaws, it is certain that the two Facebook events asking to invite 50 Facebook users to get a free Sony Xperia and Microsoft Lumia 1030 mobile phones are hoaxes and scams. The events lure Facebook users with false claims, and are only meant to promote their Facebook pages (i.e. increase fan base), sponsors and advertisements.
