Fact Check:
Certain stories doing rounds on WhatsApp come as a notice for Jio customers to upgrade to unlimited internet service till 31st December 2017 by following a link that comes with the message and installing the upgrade .apk file from the website. If the customer does not upgrade, it is also suggested that he won’t be able to use the Jio Internet and calling services and that his Jio SIM might be deactivated. Do not get carried away with the lucrative data offer, for it is not a fact and a scam to mislead Jio users.

In the current case, when WhatsApp users followed the link in the message and tried to download the alleged upgrade to unlimited Jio internet till 31st December 2017, they were asked to provide their personal information like phone number, email address and state.
The WhatsApp user was also required to share the message with his groups and with a certain number of WhatsApp contacts, before being able to upgrade. However, Reliance Jio did not announce any such offer or upgrade to unlimited internet till December 2017; these stories doing rounds on WhatsApp are simply hoaxes and scams. Earlier there was a similar scam offering Reliance Jio 4G Upgrade with 10GB Daily Download limit. The links that come with these stories are unsecured, and are not official announcements from the Jio service provider. Sharing
So, do not carry away with such lucrative offers and download unsecured apps. They steal your personal information and install third party software on your mobile phone. They can send your data to cyber criminals. Sharing the message will only spread the scam further.
