Analysis:

These messages sent as Emails in various formats come with claims that the recipient’s email ID has won cash prize of huge sum of money (4crore 65Lakhs) in what is portrayed as Land Rover Motors Promotion, United Kingdom. The email also says the recipient can receive a Land Rover SUV Car of latest model, and asks the recipient to send his personal, contact details for verification and processing of the prize. These emails, however, are not what they appear!

The people who believed in these emails and responded with their personal information have received a second email of the format mentioned below:

You have been approved to received your Demand Draft and LAND ROVER SUV CAR by a special diplomatic arrival been approved by the regulation council of the LAND ROVER GROUP 2014. In short, for the recipient to receive his said prize amount and car, the ‘Land Rover Motors Promotion, United Kingdom’ supposedly requires the winner to pay a good amount of local custom duty notarization clearance fee (20,000.00 INR) beforehand. The fact of the matter is, there is nothing like ‘Land Rover Motors Promotion’ or ‘Rover International Awareness Promotion (LRIAP)’ in UK or anywhere else; these are all simply scam emails intended to gain money from unsuspecting email users. Note that the original company is registered as Jaguar Land Rover Limited. To such queries posted on their Facebook page, Land Rover UK responded saying the emails are fraudulent messages, and strongly recommended people not to reply to them with any personal information.

Unfortunately, it has become very common for scammers like this to come up with such lotteries and promotions using reputed brand names, and innocent people keep falling preys to them losing money. We say it repeatedly, if you did not participate/buy a ticket in a lottery, you generally cannot win. And if it were to be any free lotteries/promotions, we caution people to verify their authenticity before giving away your personal information or money.
