Certain messages doing rounds on social media and on WhatsApp come with a link, clicking which would allegedly enable the option to change your WhatsApp application to your favorite color. No, the messages about New Multicolor WhatsApp 2018 are not true and are in fact part of a Scam.
New Multicolor WhatsApp 2018 Scam
The text messages originated on WhatsApp, where users received them from someone or in a group. However, if there’s any such official update, WhatsApp will not send out a text message like that.
When we clicked through the shortened link that comes with the message, we were taken to a website that supposedly offers the feature to activate the new multicolor WhatsApp 2018. When we clicked through the ‘Activate Now’ button presented there, as a matter of ‘active user’ verification, we were asked to send the message invite to 13 friends and share on 5 groups. Once all the invitations are made, it is said, the link to change your WhatsApp color shall be available. Note, this is a common method employed by scammers to spam your WhatsApp contacts.
Earlier, we have seen similar scam messages doing rounds on WhatsApp. Apart from presenting advertisements, recipients were asked to install adware like chrome extensions. In some cases, the scam can also install malware on phones. Some even reported data loss.
Therefore, the messages claiming to present users New Multicolor WhatsApp 2018 to install their favorite colors are hoaxes and part of a Scam. We suggest users not to click any such suspicious link, and not to forward the spam texts. It’s wise to use a reliable antivirus for your smartphone; to shield the device from any such malware attack.
