Analysis:

This is a message that went viral on Facebook and other social networking platforms since then. It comes with a picture of the actor Sylvester Stallone alongside a car crash scene and claims that the actor died in the horrible accident which happened because his driver was drunk and did not see a truck. Thankfully, there’s no grain of truth in it.

The hoax story, which features an image of the “Rocky” star with a play-the-video button of the supposed car crash incident, has been around for several weeks. The post circulating on Facebook, when clicked, redirected to a fake Facebook link that requires users to share the page with their friends in order to view the video. Once done, the Facebook scam redirects you to websites selling products or downloading software (that may include malware) and can also include fake surveys and scams that even gather your personal information.

In other words, the story of Sylvester Stallone’s death in a car crash is a “clickjack” scam that requires users to like/share a page in order to view the ‘shocking footage’ of purported car crash demise. The scam is designed to make vulnerable users share a website to spread surveys or other marketing stuff. Note that the names of such scam websites can change with time.

About the Picture

The picture used with the story actually shows a road accident that happened in 2013, when a 53-year old man William Snyder died in a parking lot crash in Beatrice, Nebraska. It is no way related to Sylvester Stallone.

Not First Time

This is not the first time that the actor Sylvester Stallone is reported dead. In past, a hoax story about Stallone’s death also appeared on mediafetcher.com (Global Associated News), a website that generates fake news. It is the same website, which in past reported that Jackie Chan fell to his death in Austria. The “Rocky” star is very much alive and is currently promoting his latest movie ‘The Expendables 3‘.

These scam messages have become very common on Facebook now. So users are suggested to be careful before clicking links with such compelling headlines. Many celebrities have been “killed” like this online in the past.

Hoax or Fact:

Hoax and Scam.
