Some users are receiving various text messages claiming your number has won 2 Crore 75 lakh rupees in RBI Whatsapp Global Award. To claim the huge cash prize, the sender asks recipient to email his personal details like name, address and mobile number. Apart from these text messages on WhatsApp, we’ve also come across such audio recording messages and emails with similar claims. Do not fall for the big money claims, the messages are hoaxes and in fact part of scam from cyber criminals.
Different Claims in Circulation
The messages are doing rounds on WhatsApp and also through emails in different variants. Some appear as simple WhatsApp text messages asking recipient to send his personal information to an email mentioned in it. Surprisingly, the sender name appears as ‘WhatsApp’ – to give an impression (false one) it is an official number. Similarly, there are also audio messages in Hindi and other languages, mentioning a person to contact in some reputed Bank. Furthermore, other versions come with different names and claims of prize money.
While some mention the crores of rupees you allegedly won is part of RBI WhatsApp Global Award 2019, others mention lesser amounts in lakhs won in an international lucky draw. They also appear in emails with names like WhatsApp Global Award Lotto and WhatsApp Global Powerball Award. Likewise, below is an example of one such email available online.
