Giant Rat Terrorizes Swedish Family, 15-Inch ‘Ratzilla’ was a ‘Mighty Monster’

Analysis:
Reports about a 15-inch Monster Rat supposedly caught in a Swedish family’s home was dubbed as “Ratzilla,” and gained internet fame in early March 2014. The incident is a fact!

Swedish mother of two, Signe Bengtsson, who lives north of Stockholm, heard strange noise coming from her kitchen and noticed that even their family cat refused to investigate. Later, when she was emptying the trash, she was shocked to see a giant rat underneath the sink. Talking about the incident to The Local she said, “It was right there in our rubbish bin, a mighty monster. I was petrified. I couldn’t believe such a big rat could exist. I couldn’t help but do the old classic and jump on the kitchen table and scream.”
The gigantic monster rat measured around 15 inches (39.5 cm), without its tail, and is believed to have made its way into the family’s flat by biting through a tunnel between a wooden panel and concrete. After sighting, the family managed to corner the monster rat inside their kitchen and lock it before pest controllers were called in to trap the ‘Ratzilla’. Three heavy-duty, industry-sized traps were set in the kitchen, and the rat was caught by one in less than a day; but the monster rat did not die immediately, it ran behind the dishwasher along with the trap, where it died later.
The strange incident was documented by the Bengtsson family with souvenir photos, and the news of the “mega rat” began to spread after the family contacted Sweden’s Home and Rent website to see if it was interested in the story. The news of this incident soon spread on social media with the new name “Ratzilla,” where users responded with comments varying from disgust to awe. Talking about the monster rat, the pest controllers said they had never before seen such a big one. Giant Rats belonging to various species of large rodents are sometimes seen in huge sizes like this and are often portrayed as monster-like creatures.
