Fact Check:

A ‘strange and amazing’ video is circulating online alleging to show a family of Cheetahs Sleeping with a Servant man inside Pipleshwar Mahadev Temple in Sirohi, Rajasthan. They claim the family of Cheetahs consider the servant close and sleep with him daily. No, the claims as such are not true. The video is real, but comes from a different context – not inside Pipleshwar Mahadev Temple.

Not Cheetahs Sleeping with Servant Inside Temple

Earlier in June 2020, Parveen Kaswan from Indian Forest Service department also shared the video – from an enclosure. He asked whether Cheetah prefers hard concrete or warm cloth to sleep on. The video became viral at the time, leaving internet awestruck. He also mentions the person Dolph C Volker, who as a matter of fact is an animal advocate trying to show people the up-close and personal side of Cheetahs in his YouTube channel.

The full video, over 2-minute long appeared in January 2019 with title ‘Do Cheetahs Prefer Cold Hard Concrete Or Warm Blankets Pillow & A Friend? | Three BIG CAT Night‘. Note, the three Cheetahs were captive ones bred and born at Cheetah breeding centers in South Africa; one at ‘Cheetah Experience’. The animal advocate Dolph C Volker had watched the Cheetahs grow up and built a relationship with them. That is the reason he had the comfort to sleep inside their enclosure.

This reminds of us an even more amazing story of Christian the Lion. The Lion remembers the people who raised it even after an year in wild and comes out for a joyful reunion.
