Analysis:
A picture shared heavily on social media and few other online outlets claim to show that a Giant Rat was discovered by locals in Sudan. Some also called it a Strange Giant Rabbit or even some type of Donkey. Few skeptics raised questions about the authenticity of the picture, whether or not it could be real. The picture is real, the strange animal does appear like a giant rat, with rabbit-like ears and a Kangaroo-like tail, but it is not related to any of those animals.

According to few online outlets like ahram-canada.com, the strange animals have emerged in big numbers around Merowe Dam region of Sudan, and local farmers have reported them of causing severe damage to their farms and homes. The strange animal that looks like a giant rat is actually Aardvark.

About Aardvark
Aardvark is a medium-sized, burrowing, nocturnal mammal native to Africa. It is an Omnivore (eats either other animals or plants) with a long pig-like snout that is used to sniff out food. They are also called “antbears,” and the name Aardvark comes from South Africa’s Afrikaans language, which means “earth pig.” The nocturnal feeder has sharp claws and powerful legs that help in digging out ants and termites for food, they also dig underground burrows where they spend the hot African afternoons.
