A farmer was left startled after ice started coming out of his motor pipe when he tried watering his fields early in the morning in Haryana, India.

Fact Check:

An interesting video in heavy circulation online purports to show Ice cubes coming through water pipe in Adilabad district of Telangana state. The ice bars coming out of the field pipe in cylindrical shaped bars happened allegedly due to extreme cold and freezing weather. The same video viral online appeared with other claims like the incident happened in Rajasthan and North Indian state of Haryana. The video is real, but the fact of the matter is, the incident happened elsewhere in Pakistan.

It is a fact that in late December 2018 and early January 2019 some Indian states including Telangana have witnessed very low temperatures in cold wave from North India. Many areas in the northern parts of Telangana fell below 5 degree Celsius. Notably, Arli (T), a village in Bheempur Mandal of Adilabad district witnessed a record low temperature of 2.7 degree Celsius. In such a scenario, many viewers thought the incident of Ice cubes coming through water pipe could have happened there.

We searched for whereabouts of the video and found out the incident of Ice cubes coming through water pipe actually happened in Khuzdar area of Balochistan in Pakistan. Khuzdar, like most of Balochistan, has an arid climate with very low and erratic rainfall – having record low temperatures falling even below 0 °C. A Facebook user shared the complete video, which also shows a man filming the strange incident in Balochistan.


So, the water in the irrigation pipe has frozen into Ice in extreme cold weather of Khuzdar, Balochistan. When the motor is turned on, the video shows pumping water pressure pushing the ice blocks out of the pipe.
