Certain stories and videos doing rounds heavily on social media sites claim to show Millions of Birds Gathering Unnaturally at Ras Al Khaimah Beach in UAE. It is also suggested that Scientists doubt it’s a nature’s sign of saying something is going to happen in the world shortly. Although it is a fact that the thousands of birds seen in the video have been gathering at the UAE beach, the claims that it has happened for first time, it is unnatural, and something is going to happen to this world soon are simply hoaxes.

Migrating Seabirds

The claim in question seems to have originated from YouTube channel AIMIM All India Majlis-e-ittehadul Muslimeen that uploaded the video in Entertainment category on 24 November 2016. The video showing hundreds of thousands of birds gathering at Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Beach in UAE has been a spotlight on social media, some described it as millions of Crows either dead or gathering on the RAK beaches. The thousands of birds flocking along the RAK coastline in UAE are not dead crows or any other birds, they are in fact migratory Seabirds called Lawa birds, belonging to an aquatic species scientifically known as Cormorants and Shags.

According to Khaleej Times website khaleejtimes.com, Dr Saif Al Ghais, Director of the Authority, RAK, explained that the seabirds seen in the video are simply migrating in large numbers to the UAE, in search for warm weather, as they always do every year at around the same time. According to marine biologists, the Lawa birds migrate from the acute chill of the frozen seas in European continent to comparatively warmer waters of the Arabian Gulf in search of food and comfort. The medium-to-large seabirds migrate in winter along any coast that is well-supplied with fish. Interestingly, they are known for their super skills of deep diving, propelling themselves with their webbed feet with help from their wings.
