Pictures and videos shared widely online claim to show that Alien hunters have spotted an ‘Alien Coffin’ in a photograph taken by NASA’s Curiosity Rover on the red planet Mars. Let us analyze if the said claim is hoax or fact.
Source of Claim
Maryland-based UFO hunter Will Farrar of whatsupinthesky.com came up with the claim that he spotted what he believes to be a ‘decorative’ box on the red planet Mars in an image taken by NASA’s Curiosity Rover. The curiosity about the ‘Coffin’ spread wide after Farrar uploaded a video to YouTube (shown below) on 27 Dec 2014 to put across his interpretational analysis on the mysterious box-shaped object, which appears to be around 3.2 ft across and 1.5 ft wide and high.
The video titled ‘Stonework & Boxes / Coffin Collecting Dust On The Surface Of Mars‘ came with a description saying that Will Farrar’s buddy Kjell sent him the picture asking “Sure would love to know whats buried in that coffin“. Farrar also goes on to say that the object on Mars does look like a modern coffin concrete liner, and the surrounding stonework that appears like remains of stairs or some stonework suggest it belongs to some old civilizations constructions. It is to be noted that earlier this year, a plasma physicist at Orbital Technologies, Dr John Brandenburg said he believes that an ancient civilization existed on Mars that was wiped out by a nuclear attack from another alien race.
Coffin a Rock?
Talking about the ‘Alien Coffin,’ alien researcher Scott Waring of the UFO Sightings Daily (UFOsightingsDaily.com) said that it may simply be a box-shaped stone formation, and also wonders if NASA’s Curiosity Rover can take a closer look at it. Scott Waring is the same person, who in the past, has come up with a claim that he spotted a rodent in a photograph taken by NASA on Mars. As of this writing, no life is discovered on the red planet Mars, the possibility of which is discussed in our article debunking the rat spotted in NASA photograph claim. Moreover, scientists believe that sightings like these are mostly associated with a psychological phenomenon called Pareidolia, where people imagine seeing things that are not present. So considering all the aforementioned available facts, the claim that UFO hunters have spotted an Alien Coffin in a NASA photograph of Mars is a hoax; it is a figment of imagination of the UFO watchers.
