It is a fact that the Flathead Lake in Montana is the largest natural freshwater lake in the western United States, one of the cleanest as well. The lake reaches a maximum depth of about 370 feet, and the waters in this Flathead lake are so clear that it creates an appearance of shallowness, deceiving our eyes. However, the picture in question does not really show the actual 370 feet depth of the lake. The picture was originally taken by a photographer named Gretchen Bredeson and was posted in ‘Your Shot’ section of National Geographic website – which clearly said that the shot was taken from the top of a ladder at the “end of the dock”.

This picture was taken in Northwest Montana. My friend Rod took the shot from the top of a ladder at the end of the dock. The water is so clear that it looks deceptively shallow.
