Story:

Two Suns in the Sky

Once in a lifetime weather phenomenon causes TWO SUNS to appear in the sky!

A Hunter’s Moon doesn’t create the illusion of two suns, isn’t a miracle, … a phenomenon that creates the appearance of two suns in the sky.

The Miracle has happened yesterday. USA and CANADA saw two suns. This is called as Hunters Moon. Due to change of orbit the sun sets and moon rises at the same time with both being opposite to each other at a particular angle or degree moon reflects the sun so bright that it almost feels like another sun. Effects stays for couple of days.

Fact Check:

Various set of pictures shared on social media sites and elsewhere online claim to show a rare appearance of Two Suns in the Sky that supposedly occurs due to what is called as Hunter’s Moon phenomenon. It is also said that USA and Canada have witnessed the rare phenomenon. The claims, however, are not facts.

Origin of Claim

These stories and pictures claiming to show two suns in the sky have originated from a Facebook post on 4 November 2015, where the user Acharayaa Monika K. Kumar has shared three pictures (two singles and one combined set shown above), saying the rare miracle is caused by Hunter’s Moon phenomenon:

It is said that the appearance of two suns occurs in the sky when the sun changes its orbit and sets while the moon rises at the same time, and when both are opposite to each other at a certain angle/degree, the moon reflects sun so bright that it almost feels like another sun. The interesting Facebook post garnered thousands of likes and shares. However, the ‘Hunter’s Moon’ has got nothing to do with the optical illusion of two suns, it is simply a terminology used to refer to the first full moon after a harvest moon. The pictures are not even related to the 2015 event of Hunter’s Moon mentioned in the post. Moreover, as mentioned in the Facebook post, the first full moon after the autumnal equinox (the Hunter’s Moon) did not occur on 3 November 2015, it happened on the nights of October 26 and 27, 2015. As far as the two single pictures showing two suns in sky are concerned, we have seen they have been online years before the said date and have been circulating with many such false stories. Some earlier stories called the ‘second sun’ as planet Jupiter or even Nibiru.

So the pictures and stories claiming to show two suns in sky, the so called rare appearance of which is attributed to the Hunter’s Moon phenomenon, are hoaxes.

Hoax or Fact:

Hoax.
