Fact Check:
A ‘spooky’ video in heavy circulation on Facebook, YouTube and other online platforms purports to show large number of Scorpions rained in a Rajasthan village. The unusual sight of hundreds of scorpions gathered inside a room went viral online during heavy rains in Rajasthan, India. Although the video is real, the claims about scorpions rain in Rajasthan are not true.
Not Scorpions Rain in Rajasthan
The rare sight of hundreds of poisonous creepy crawlies does indeed look scary. In the video, you can also hear people shouting at the sight. Nonetheless, it does not show any scorpions raining in Rajasthan. Gujarat Reader website gujaratreader.com published a report on it in mid-August 2019 along with the video. The large number of scorpions were in fact found in the dilapidated room (built inside a field) of Anandpur village of Dhanduka City in Gujarat. They escaped the water due to heavy rains.

Scorpions tend to surface in greater numbers after a lot of rainfall. They escape the increasing rainwaters underground and move to higher altitude in search of a warmer place. This is the reason scorpion sting incidents occur more during rainy seasons. So, what you see in the video is not scorpions rain in Rajasthan. It rather shows hundreds of scorpions gathered inside a room after heavy rainfall in a Gujarat village.
