Analysis:

An interesting video doing rounds online since 2015 purports to show a Giant Firework display in Sky that appears like a ‘Stairway To Heaven’. While some people thought the footage of stunning firework of Giant ‘Sky Ladder’ could have been created digitally, it is in fact a real display.

The ‘Stairway To Heaven’ firework display is a pyrotechnic artwork of Cai Guoqiang, a Chinese contemporary artist, currently living and working in New York City. The Explosion type artwork project titled “Sky Ladder” lit up the sky at Huiyu Island, in Quanzhou City of China on 15 June 2015. The 5000 meters (close to 16500 feet) high firework was actually created by using a ladder filled with gun-powder and attaching it to the bottom of a rising hot air Helium balloon.

Cai Guoqiang said that his giant ‘Sky Ladder’ firework display was a gesture of love for his elderly grandmother, as he wanted to create her a ‘stairway to heaven’. The artist, who also happened to design the spectacular fireworks to open Beijing Olympics, added that his grandmother was born in a small village and sold fish to raise him and help him realize his artistic dream. Notably, Cai Guoqiang tried to make the firework ladder on several occasions over the last 20 years before succeeding in it for the first time.
