These pictures of a strange creature taken on 11 July 2013 were circulating through various social networking sites, raising speculations of a possible new and undiscovered species. The pictures of this strange creature, as reported by the Huffington Post, were first posted to a website serving the city of Bushehr in western Iran on the Persian Gulf. However, this does not appear to be any new creature, but is in fact the carcass, i.e corpse of what appears like some type of Whale.

Unidan, a Reddit user who is regarded as an expert in biology by the members of the social news thought it could be the carcass of a whale – considering its blackened skin and vertebrae. Dr. Gary Griggs, director of the Institute of Marine Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz, also had similar opinion about this floating carcass.

“From my vast knowledge and experience with whales and their skeletons, it is clearly a whale. Although with the condition of the body, [it’s] difficult for me to determine what kind of whale.”
