Certain unconventional stories circling rounds online state that Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) or Aliens have been spotted flying near US President Donald Trump’s Plane on 19 Jan 2017 before he came to his Inauguration ceremony in Washington DC. No, the UFO and Alien claims are not facts.
Origin of Story
As seen in the FOX 10 Phoenix news footage of 19 Jan. 2017 telecasted in Arizona, couple of flying objects were indeed spotted around Donald Trump’s Plane as he departed from New York City on an official government plane, to Washington D.C. for his Inauguration as President. After 1:50 timeframe into the video, you can see a white object in the background that is left behind, and after 2:55 timeframe, you can see a dark one flying forward, past the plane. On 21 Jan. 2017, UFO Sightings Daily website ufosightingsdaily.com reported the story with a breaking headline saying “Aliens Give Escort To US President Donald Trump’s Plane In Washington DC, Jan 19, 2017, Video“. The next day on 22nd Jan. Mysterious Universe website mysteriousuniverse.org reported the same video with yet another breaking headline saying “UFOs Seen Near Donald Trump’s Plane Before Inauguration“. The extraterrestrial claims gained traction online since then.
Actual Facts
The article on UFO Sightings Daily website suggested that aliens probably have a deep interest in America’s new President and what he has destined for the world. However, the website has a history of publishing such hoax stories. For example, in past, they have come up with false stories like Astronauts Freaked Out During Spacewalk as Alien UFOs Fly Past ISS, NASA’s Curiosity Rover Spotted Alien Coffin on Mars and also a Squirrel in another instance. The Mysterious Universe website reported that the UFOs were spotted by many people, including a witness who reported it on the MUFON website (case 81655). MUFON is a USA based Mutual UFO Network that investigates alien abductions and UFO sightings and footage. But the organization has also admitted in the past that it does get inundated with hoax footage by pranksters and other individuals. Earlier, a false story saying a Shocking UFO Spotted in Kenya was submitted to same.
The alleged UFO objects appear to be different and are blurry enough to make accurate identification. The first one that appears white in colour is probably another Plane in far background, and the second one that appears black is mostly a Bird passing in front of the camera lens. Slowing down the speed play of the YouTube video, we could see a slight movement of what appears to be flapping of the wings. Therefore, the claims that UFOs or Aliens have been spotted flying near US President Donald Trump’s Plane as he left for his Inauguration ceremony are hoaxes.
Similar Story in Past
In mid August 2015 as well, MUFON website mufon.com published a case with title ‘Iowa Fair witness says UFO followed Trump helicopter‘ showing a photograph. Again, basing on the story UFO Sightings Daily website came up with an article saying “UFO Follows The Donald Trump Helicopter, Tells US Trump Will Be Next President“. In that case too, as explained in Open Minds website openminds.tv, the object, which is not clearly identifiable from the picture, could be any number of things from a second Helicopter to a Bird.
People should remember, just because an object in the sky cannot be identified immediately, it does not necessarily mean they are UFOs and we are being visited by Extraterrestrials and Aliens. Most ‘UFO sightings’ in past can be explained as something natural or man-made.
