This can only be seen every year between Sep 16 to Sep 23 between 6pm to 6.30pm in ZhaoQing city, Guangdong, China. During the sunset, one can see this majestic view (over 3 evenings in autumn) known as “Sleeping Buddha swallowing the pill”(卧佛含珠). A mountain which looks like the face of the Buddha and the sun acting as the pill. The feeling was indescribable.

A fascinating video in wide circulation online alleges to show an amazing scene of Sleeping Buddha Swallowing Sun in China. The wonderful view of Sunset shows the appearance of a mountain looking like the face of a sleeping man or reclining Buddha consuming a Pill (Sun). Accompanying messages also claim the phenomenon is visible in mid September in ZhaoQing city of Guangdong province, China. Yes, the video is real and the claims are true, but such a scene is visible only from a certain angle from long distance.
About the Video of Sleeping Buddha Swallowing Sun
On 12th October 2019, VK social network user Mothukuri Rao shared the message and a video appearing to show the sleeping man or Buddha swallowing the sun gradually. Facebook user Peter Lai shared the video earlier in September 2017. Back in September 2015 again, a Pictame user shared a similar picture from the place.

The mountain looking like Reclining Buddha in Fairy Lake
The videos and pictures are real – they are from Fairy Lake (also called Xinghu Lake), located at the heart of the Xinghu Wetland Park in ZhaoQing city, China. According to Chinese Daily Headlines website kknews.cc, the sleeping Buddha lying on its back is in fact a formation of several peaks and hills of Qixingyan. The amazing natural phenomenon takes place at the tourist attraction in March and mid-September.
The sun comes down gradually and appears to fall into Buddha’s mouth at around six in the evening when the weather is fine. Note, this is only visible in staged shoot from a particular angle. During the scenic phenomenon, tourists and photographers visit the place to witness the beauty of nature and capture its charm on camera. ‘Reclining Buddha Swallowing Panacea’
The beautiful and unusual appearance of sleeping Buddha swallowing sun in Fairy Lake of ZhaoQing resulted in the strange phenomena of ‘Reclining Buddha Swallowing Panacea’. At the same time in mid-September, even cultural festivals are held at the Fairy Lake scenic spot in Xinghu National Wetland Park. Buddhists in fact believe the sun approaches the reclining Buddha slowly, like an Elixir falling into his mouth.

On the other hand, the body of the reclining Buddha is around 1 kilometer long and the shape looks so from long distance view. As you can see in couple of images below, closer view of the place is somewhat different.
