Fact Check:
A picture message in circulation on social media platforms purports to show Bill Gates Supporting Muslims’ Animal Sacrifice on Eid festival. Accordingly, Bill Gates does not want to see any tweet hating Muslims for slaughtering animals during Eid, saying they do it to feed the poor. No, the claims are not true – Bill Gates did not post any such tweet supporting animal sacrifice on Eid.
Origin of Claim: Bill Gates Supporting Animal Sacrifice on Eid
A screenshot of the alleged Twitter message from Bill Gates is circulating widely on Twitter, Facebook and also WhatsApp. On 10th August 2019, Twitter user Kurdistani @WolfieBabiee posted the message in question, garnering popularity. On 14th August, another user Enver Baig @SenatorEB17 shared a screenshot of the alleged Twitter message of Bill Gates on Animal sacrifice. He appreciated Bill Gates for his ‘tweet’; hoping people around the world will understand Islam is a religion of peace and harmony.
Sacrificing dear domestic animals like cattle is part of Islamic religious practice during Eid al-adha. The family retains one-third of the animal meat, giving another third to relatives, friends and neighbors, and the remaining third is given to the poor and needy.
No Such Tweet
Despite the popularity of the message, we did not find any such message on Twitter account of Bill Gates @BillGates. If Bill Gates tweeted anything about Eid or slaughtering/sacrifice of animals, it would have easily made into mainstream news. That suggests the picture message – in improper English – is just a Photoshop creation. It reminds us of an old hoax message showing a Photoshop picture of Bill Gates claiming he is giving away $5000 for a Facebook share.
So, the picture messages claiming to show Bill Gates’ tweet supporting Muslims’ Animal Sacrifice on Eid festival are just hoaxes. That however did not stop many from sharing it on social media circles.
