Fact Check:
A story that went viral on Facebook purports to present a disturbing video from 2017, which allegedly shows Keralites Beating Lord Rama Pictures with Slippers. Due to the disrespect shown to the Hindu God Rama, viewers are also discouraged in helping the flood victims of Kerala. What you see in the video is real, however, the incident is not from Kerala.
Beating Lord Rama Pictures with Slippers
Firstly, the story and video in question appeared on a Facebook post of Time 4 Truth on 26th August 2018. Due to the controversial nature of content, the Facebook post garnered thousands of shares before going viral. Unfortunately, some of the viewers unaware of the truth went on to criticize Keralites beating lord Rama pictures with slippers. They even went on to say Kerala suffered the fate of floods for disrespecting the Hindu God Rama.

The truth of the matter is the incident is not from Kerala – it actually happened in Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu in March 2018. It shows a group of people insulting the pictures of Lord Rama by slapping them with slippers. As per a report on Satya Vijayi website satyavijayi.com, the incident took place in response to the breaking of a Periyar statue in Pudukkottai. The group also protested the peaceful Ram Rajya Rath Yatra in Tamil Nadu, whose aim was to construct a Lord Rama temple in Ayodhya.

Therefore, the claim that the disturbing video shows Keralites beating Lord Rama pictures with slippers is a hoax. The incident happened in Tamil Nadu and shows a group of people in protest.
