Story:

The Last Prayers offered in the Demolished Babri Masjid …

After this the mosque will be handed over to Hindus.

Fact Check:

Some stories doing rounds on social media in Urdu and English allege to show a large group of Muslims offering Last Prayers in Demolished Babri Masjid. They also mention the mosque will be handed over to Hindus after the Muslim prayers. No, the claims are not true – the photograph does not show Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.

Not Last Prayers in Babri Masjid

The photograph is in wide circulation on Twitter and Facebook with similar claims. It often appears in messages criticizing the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992. After thorough investigations, the Supreme Court of India gave a final judgment in the Ayodhya dispute on 9 November 2019. It ordered handing over the land to a trust to build the Hindu temple.  The court also ordered the government to give an alternate 5 acres of land to the Sunni Waqf Board to build a mosque.

Coming back to the story in question, the photograph does not show Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. Unlike the claims, the photograph actually shows Muslims offering Eid al-Adha prayers at the Ferozshah Kotla Mosque in New Delhi on 9th December 2008. Photographer Gurinder Osan took the wide angle photograph for Associated Press.
