A message doing rounds online warns people that a Man Doing Bird Box Challenge Gets Jumped and Mugged in a “drug dealing neighborhood”. It says, like many other fans, the man Anthony Hanes took the Bird Box Challenge before ending up with such fate. It is a fact the challenge has become a social media trend, but the claim about the man doing Bird Box Challenge and attack on him in hood is not true.
About Bird Box Challenge
Bird Box is a Netflix thriller movie, wherein Sandra Bullock and survivors had to do all tasks blindfolded; else the lurking monsters will drive them to suicide. The idea of doing tasks blindfolded hit some fans and so came up the meme-ification of Bird Box for entertainment. Fans began to do ordinary tasks while blindfolded and posted the videos on YouTube and social media platforms. Some took it to ‘one day challenge,’ some tried driving blindfolded and some parents also involved toddlers in ordinary blindfolded tasks. However, not all cases turned out well.
Some people hurt themselves and met with accidents because of undertaking the Bird Box Challenge. Post the growing social media fad, Netflix issued a public health warning requesting the movie fans not to get carried away with the Bird Box memes and end up in hospital. Even YouTube seems to be deleting some Bird Box challenge videos, which promote ideas having an inherent risk of physical harm.

Anthony Hanes Doing Bird Box Challenge – Satirical Origin
Like the message says, there are no credible reports describing attack on Anthony Hanes during his Bird Box Challenge. In view of the Bird Box Challenge becoming an internet sensation, the infamous satire website huzlers.com published the original story on 2nd Jan. 2019. The article carried the below paragraph:
Anthony Hanes tried to do the challenge himself and ended up in a drug dealing neighbor hood know robberies. Anthony says all he remembers is someone screaming “WORLD STAR!!” as he was attacked and robbed by criminals. No one has yet been arrested but Anthony Hanes told police he knew it was a bad idea.
Huzlers, like mentioned in their disclaimer, is a fauxtire & satire entertainment website. So, the claim in question is a hoax. The background picture accompanying the story in Huzlers article shows an old incident from January 2012. Seven teens attacked a 17-year-old boy in a Chicago alley and reportedly stole his wallet and gym shoes.
