A photograph is doing rounds online alleging to show satellite image of how People in Italy are Dying like Birds on Street due to Coronavirus. Accompanying messages also point the sad plight is because people did not listen to warning of their Prime Minister. So, the messages in Telugu and Hindi suggest Indians to be very careful amid the global pandemic, Coronavirus. The claims as such are mixture of hoax and facts explained here.

Not Photograph of People Dying in Italy

The photograph in question has got nothing to do with Italy or its condition after Coronavirus killing. It is an old one taken on 24th March 2014 and shows people lying down in a pedestrian zone as part of an art project in Frankfurt, Germany. It was in remembrance of the 528 victims of the “Katzbach” Nazi concentration camp. The inmates of the concentration camp, part of the former Adler industrial factory were forced into a death march to the concentration camps of Buchenwald and Dachau on 24th March 1945. Around 528 victims of Katzbach were buried at Frankfurt’s central cemetery.

Notably, the image is also doing rounds on WhatsApp and other social media platforms with another story:

It says the deadly form of virus china is suffering may spread to India through food and asks people to avoid cold drinks, ice creams and other preserved foods. The story is in fact an older hoax message explained in our article.

Deadly Consequences of Coronavirus in Italy

Although the photograph is unrelated, it is a fact the new strain of Coronavirus, COVID-19 has resulted in deadly consequences in Italy. Despite some warnings after outbreak in China, there were various public gatherings. Moreover, Italy has higher percentage of old people, who can have other health conditions. They are usually vulnerably to deadly virus like this. As of this writing, Italy is suffering more than 74,300 confirmed cases and over 7,500 deaths due to the Coronavirus. So, like the stories suggest, people should take the warnings from government and health officials seriously. Staying at home is highly important to combat the transmission of the deadly Coronavirus, COVID-19.
