Fact Check:

Some messages are doing rounds online along with a video alleging to show Trump Announced Roche Medical Company will Launch the Coronavirus Vaccine next Sunday. The ‘great news’ also says it can cure patient within 3 hours after injection, adding millions of doses are ready. No, the claims are not true – Trump did not make any such announcement.

Trump Did Not Announce about Roche Company Coronavirus Vaccine

A similar ‘good news’ message was doing rounds earlier on social media saying Coronavirus vaccine is invented and it can cure in 3hrs after injection. The message also accompanied a video allegedly showing a news report on the discovery. In that case, the message was referring to Inovio Pharmaceuticals, a San Diego lab discovering COVID-19/Coronavirus vaccine in 3 hours. Notably, the DNA vaccine of the Company for COVID-19, INO-4800 was in preclinical studies at the time.

Coming to the story in question, US President Donald Trump did not announce Roche Medical Company will launch Coronavirus vaccine next Sunday or about millions of doses ready from it. The video in question is in fact about Roche Diagnostics getting FDA approval to conduct Coronavirus tests. Unlike the claim, it is not about vaccine for Coronavirus. To clarify, what you see in the short video is a news report of it from NBC News Now. The clipping is available in a White House video published on 13th March 2020 showing President Trump holding a News Conference.

In the video Matt Sause of Roche Diagnostics thanks US FDA for their rapid approval of Coronavirus tests. He also adds they will bring hundreds-and-thousands of tests in near future to help patients in need in United States. As of this writing, many companies around the world are working to create a vaccine for the deadly new strain of Coronavirus, COVID-19.
