Facts Analysis:
A video viral on Facebook and WhatsApp purports to show social activist Trupti Desai Felicitated by Anti-Hindus after Sabarimala verdict in Supreme Court of India. It suggests Trupti Desai’s protests for allowing women in various popular Hindu temples in India are funded by a group of people of different faith. As discussed below in detail, the claims as such are mixture of hoax and facts.

Who is Trupti Desai
Trupti Desai is a social and gender-equality activist who founded Bhumata Brigade in 2010. The Pune-based social activist organization comprises of thousands of women members (along with some men). Victims of eve teasing, dowry issues and physical or sexual assault seek their assistance. Trupti Desai shot to fame campaigning for entry of women into popular Hindu religious temples like the Shani Shingnapur, Mahalakshmi and Trimbakeshwar Shiva in Maharashtra. On 28th September 2018, Supreme Court gave a verdict saying women of all ages can enter Kerala’s most famous temple, Sabarimala. Trupti Desai raised voice over the issue actively, and the video in question shows people from different faith meeting and congratulating her.
Trupti Desai Felicitated by Anti-Hindus?
After the video went viral, some allegations suggested Muslims supported Trupti Desai in scrapping the ban in Kerala. Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple in Kerala barred entry of women of menstruating age. Responding to it, Trupti Desai said she was congratulated by people of all faith after Supreme Court’s verdict. A related article on the quint website thequint.com mentions about the people who met Trupti Desai for congratulating her:
She (Trupti Desai) added that the Christian organization from Goa and Maharashtra had also come to visit her. “In the group (in the video) are Sangita Pappani, a Christian who works for the upliftment of minority Christians in Pune, Manisha Tilekar, a Hindu and a member Bhumata Brigade, and Chandrakanta Kudalkar, who works with women from across all religions.”
“The group also included members of the Republican Sena, a group that works for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. On the same day, members of a Muslim group Zamzam-e -Khidmat, that works for all religions, had also visited me and congratulated me,“ she said.
On the contrary, a close examination and study into video content and background context raises some questions. Christian organizations, in general, do not work around matters of Hindu Temples. One Hindu woman in the video, Manisha Tilekar is a member of Bhumata Brigade, the owner of which is Trupti Desai herself. Moreover, Hindu organizations have been opposing (not supporting) her campaigns and protests for breaking age-old traditions and beliefs in the name of gender equality.
Shani Shingnapur Temple
In case of Shani Shingnapur Temple, large section of women in favor of age-old traditions observed at temples opposed the agitation of Ms. Desai and others, describing them as publicity stunts. It is a fact that such campaigns around religious places can get you easy publicity.
