In early 2018 the Department of Telecommunications (DoT, India) issued a directive to Telecom Service Providers to implement 13-digit numbering scheme for M2M (machine-to-machine) communication. Notably, M2M services relate to Internet-enabled electronic devices that communicate through a SIM card. For instance, they include swipe machines, cars, electricity meters and latest refrigerators. Essentially, it is a part of direct communication among electronic devices.
