Amazon reportedly wants to make first Smart phone offering free.
Amazon may be plotting a move into the Smartphone segment, and the online retail giant may have just the trick to help it make a splash in that Apple/Samsung-dominated market: offering its Smartphone for free.
Which technology giant will be the first to offer a free Smartphone?
Amazon Inc. is making a play.
Circulating messages suggest that the online retailer giant Amazon has been in the making of its first Smartphone and is planning to give it away to all its customers – for free. Not really!
Speculations about the first Smartphone from Amazon has been around for a long time now. According to The Wall Street Journal, Amazon has been developing Smartphones of its own at its Lab126 unit, which also includes a device that can display three-dimensional images and can respond to the eye movement. However, these plans were not made public, and it was also not clear when Amazon Smartphone will be offered at retail. Coming to the claim in question, it was first mentioned in a report on Jessica Lessin website that Amazon’s plans to release its first phone had been delayed in part because the company was exploring the economics of a free handset. This was later refuted by an Amazon spokesman, while responding to the Wall Street Journal:
“We have no plans to offer a phone this year. If we were to launch a phone in the future, it would not be free.”
So the claims saying Amazon is planning to give away its new Smartphone for free is a hoax.
