Fact Check:

A video is viral on social media alleging to show high speed floating train started in China. Accompanying messages claim the unbelievable and fantastic train has boxes full of magnets instead of wheels. No, the claims are not entirely true – the video is not real and in fact a computer simulation.

No Floating Train Starts in China

On 13th January 2021, China unveiled the prototype of high-speed Maglev (derived from magnetic levitation) train. Southwest Jiaotong University’s scientists developed the 69-ft long super sleek prototype and also unveiled it in Chengdu city of China. The train will not have any wheels and shall in fact run on the magnetic levitation developed with high-temperature superconducting (HTS) technology.

The superconductor technology the train employs could make it faster and lighter than its peers. The superfast, futuristic floating train can especially hit the speeds of around 600 km per hour.

So, looks like, someone caught the levitating train concept of futuristic model and made the funny floating train video using computer simulation. Nonetheless, the story became popular amidst the real news of Maglev train prototype. After all, Vice President of Southwest Jiaotong University, He Chuan told media the real Maglev train could be operational within 3-10 years.
