These messages circulating on Facebook warn users not to join a Facebook group named “Becoming a father or mother was the greatest gift of my life” because it is operated by Pedophiles who access your photos. It is not a fact.

Various Versions

We have seen that these warning messages on Facebook have been circulating in various forms since early 2010, and to make it appear credible, some versions mention that it was reported by different Fox news channels. However, no such warning was reported by Fox news, and originally there was no such pedophile group with that name or similar which is operated by pedophiles. Moreover, when your Facebook profile information and photos are private, simply joining a Facebook group does not give the group creator the access to your photographs. Becoming a Mother or Father Facebook group pedophile warning is basically a long running hoax that keeps resurfacing in various forms.

Post this hoax, some pranksters created Facebook groups with related names, while others created similar groups to talk against pedophiles. For example, this Facebook group with the same title ‘Becoming a Father or Mother was the greatest gift of my life‘ is a parenting group. The message in circulation appears like a pointless warning designed to gather attention of Facebook users.

Having said that, pedophiles can sometimes use Facebook as a medium for criminal offense against children. So when children are using Facebook, their parents and guardians should monitor what all contacts they are making and the information and photos they are sharing.
