The video claiming to show a Cloud flying and then landing in Kuwait went viral on Facebook and other social networking platforms. However, it does not appear real.

The video was originally shared by Bilal Bond on his Facebook account, on 19 November 2013, and it soon went viral, gathering more than 51,000 shares on Facebook as of this writing. The associated tag “Cloud landed in Kuwait” became trending in social networking websites, but many netizens responded saying the video is fake. Rightly so, because as you can see in the beginning of the video, the cloud like object started rising above into the air, and appears like it has been attached to something initially, which is perhaps set to release the ‘cloud’ that way.

The Flying Cloud

The flying cloud like object looks like some kind of light weight synthetic cotton. As mentioned in a ‘Scenic Materials’ article here, synthetic cotton wool material (shown in picture below) makes excellent clouds. It should also be noted that Bilal Bond, the person who shared the video on Facebook works as a Sales Associate for City Centre, Salmiya in Kuwait, and this is a festive season, where retail companies come up with lot of promotional stuff to attract customers.

Cloud Formation

Cloud formation occurs when the water vapors, through the process of evaporation and transpiration, join with dust particles in the atmosphere. If the cloud droplets become too heavy to be held aloft as the gravitational force overcomes the atmospheric drag, they fall from the cloud as rain. Clouds do not land on ground like that; neither do they stand beside a fence. The video showing a cloud landing in Kuwait is therefore a hoax; it is rather some kind of light weight synthetic cotton material.
