Analysis:
The ‘Facebook Privacy Notice’ message posted on Facebook walls in many versions claims to protect the user’s personal details and all other data from unauthorized copying. As detailed below, the aforementioned stories coming as Facebook privacy notice updates are not facts.
The Facebook privacy notice claims that any Facebook user can copy and paste the message text on his wall, and this supposedly will protect his privacy and forbids Facebook to disclose, copy or share any content related to his profile. The notice also points that Facebook has now become an open capital entity, and that all its members are supposed to recommended and publish a notice like this. Facebook users who read this notice got frightened about their privacy and started circulating it. However, this is not a fact. Both Facebook and its users are bound to the same terms and conditions that are accepted by users while signing up for this social networking service, so posting a notice like this on user’s Facebook wall will not do anything to change that.
According to Facebook’s legal terms of service, the user grants permission to Facebook to use, distribute, and share his information and content, subject to the terms and applicable privacy settings.
The Facebook privacy notice is a hoax, it need not be posted. This fake privacy notice actually started spreading few days after Facebook posted its new privacy guidelines in late 2012, that it would allow its users to comment on proposed changes to Facebook governing documents (i.e. the rules for how Facebook treats your information and privacy), but not vote. Similar fake privacy notice messages also circulated on Facebook in the past.
Hoax or Fact:
Hoax.
