Analysis:
This is a bizarre story that has been spreading heavily on Facebook and other social networking websites since April 2014. It says that a Louisiana woman was arrested for having killed 9 people — for not accepting her Facebook friend requests. Thankfully, the story is not a fact!
Origin of Message
The weird story seems to have become popular from an article published in NationalReport.net on 3 April 2014 that said a 31-year-old Louisiana woman Sha’Quonda Johnson was taken into custody by Police after she claimed the lives of 9 people in a four year manhunt between 2009 and 2013. The report said she killed the nine people when they did not accept her friend request on Facebook. Further, it was also mentioned that Sha’Quonda was always a nice girl growing up, but a lonely child who just wanted friends.

People who believed in the story thought the case could be related some kind of obsession, but the fact of the matter is, the article on National Report website is not genuine news; it is one of their many fabricated, satirical stories that keep circulating online. In fact, the website has been publishing many such hoax stories, couple of which you can read in related stories below. Not many readers observe, the disclaimer on the bottom of their website reads:

A very similar story that said a Louisiana woman Lashawndra Harris from DeQuincy killed five people for not accepting her friend requests on Facebook was published in Feb 2013 in a less credible, satirical website SuperOfficialNews.com. As far as the picture that comes with these articles is concerned, it actually shows a woman in cow suit Michelle Allen, who was arrested for disorderly conduct in Middletown, Ohio back in 2008.

Although the claim is a hoax, the satirical article kind of relates to some people’s addiction to Facebook and the want of large friend circle there. While social networking is definitely beneficial, having friends in real is better than a virtual acquaintance.
