This occurs once every 2373 years.

Other Versions

Planetary Alignment with the Giza Pyramids, it Only Happens Once in 2,373 years.

Fact Check:

A cool night sky picture and message widely circulated online claim to show that Mercury, Venus and Saturn Planets Align above Giza Pyramids in Egypt. Allegedly, the linear alignment of the planets occurs only once in every 2373 years. As a matter of fact, some earlier versions of the message even mentioned the incident occurred on 3rd December 2012, just before Sunrise. So many viewers went on to think the picture is real and does indeed show rare linear alignment of Mercury, Venus and Saturn above Giza Pyramids. As explained below, the claims are mixture of hoax and facts.

Mercury, Venus & Saturn Planets Align Above Giza Pyramids

The story in question had significance because planetary alignments and the pyramids play large role in New Age astrological beliefs. Earlier in 2016, a similar ‘representative’ picture showed a factual story about the rare Planetary Alignment of Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

Coming to the story in question, the featured picture appeared with a brief message giving no explanation about the ‘rare’ planetary alignment. Not in that linear way, but the three planets did align in an infrequent way in December 2012. In fact, the cool picture showing that Mercury, Venus & Saturn Planets Align Above Giza Pyramids is not real – it is a Photoshop job. It appeared on World Mysteries Blog blog.world-mysteries.com in 2012 with the title “2012 and the Pyramids At Giza“. The author Charles Marcello mentioned alignment of Mercury, Venus and Saturn above Giza Pyramids on 3rd December 2012. He linked Astronomy and Pyramids and used the free software program Stellarium to watch night sky. So, the picture in question is probably an idealized representative image of the planetary alignment.

Alignment of the three planets Mercury, Venus and Saturn happens fairly often, and it is not very rare. Somewhat similar alignment of the three planets took place earlier in June 2005. On 3rd December 2012, the three planets did not really look like that from Giza. In fact, the planetary alignment with Gaza Pyramids in Egypt was more of vertical in contrast to the linear-horizontal way shown in picture. Moreover, the same three planets were visible in most parts of the world.
