Fact Check:
A video is viral on social media carrying the description – Extremist Hindus Humiliating Muslim Students in India. It shows some guys throwing water at a group of Muslim girls (wearing Burkhas) moving along on road. The same short video appeared on social media sites with another, similar description saying it shows RSS groups torturing Muslim college girls. The video gained significance during the aftermath attacks between India and Pakistan post terrorist attack on Pulwama. However, as explained below, the claims are not true – the video does not show Hindus humiliating Muslim students.
Not Hindus Humiliating Muslim Students
Since late February 2019, some Pakistani social media users started sharing the video (with false descriptions) on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube among others.

The same video also appeared on Facebook with another, similar version saying, “RSS groups torturing Muslim college girls“. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is an Indian right-wing, Hindu nationalist, paramilitary volunteer organization.
Although shared heavily on social media, the video does not show Hindus humiliating Muslim students or RSS torturing them. What you see in the video in fact appears like a ragging incident which took place in Eastern University of Sri Lanka. Online Ceylon website onlineceylon.lk reported the incident earlier on 24th February, 2019.
Contrary to the ‘religious’ claim, there’s another video of the incident on Facebook showing other girls in uniform (not just Muslim girls) being thrown water at.
