Fact Check:

Various messages in circulation online claim Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Water Costs 10 Crore Rupees During Navratri Fast. The messages doing rounds since at least 2016 claim an RTI has revealed the whooping cost spent on mineral water. No, as explained below, the claims are not true.

Modi Water Costs 10 Crore During Navratri Fast?

Navratri is a revered nine nights Hindu festival worshipping Goddess Durga, which is celebrated in India every year. Fasting is part of the festival some people follow without eating anything or just taking liquid foods. It is a fact the Indian Prime Minister keeps fast during Navratri pooja and takes only water, fruits or juices. However, the messages saying PM Modi water costs 10 crore rupees during the Navratri fast are not facts. There are no credible reports on it.

Satirical Origin

In July 2016, Junta Ka Reporter website juntakareporter.com published an article saying an RTI query reveals PM Modi spent Rs 10 crore on mineral water during Navratri fast the previous year in 2015. The article mentions during his Navratri fast, PM Modi avoids food and takes only water and sometimes fruit juices. Allegedly, Junta Ka Reporter filed an RTI asking PMO the amount of money spent on buying fruit juices and mineral waters by the Union Government during the Navratri days ever since BJP came to power. The answer, according to the article, is a whopping ten crore nine lakh twenty-eight thousand and forty-five rupees. Notably, the article also mentions Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) supremo also exposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The fact of the matter, however, is that Junta Ka Reporter – which describes itself as neutral, honest and truthful – is just a satire website. They also carry a disclaimer informing readers the same. The website has earlier published a false article suggesting Narendra Modi blocked the nomination of Arvind Kejriwal for Nobel Peace Prize.

To conclude, the messages claiming Indian PM Narendra Modi water costs 10 crore rupees during Navratri fast are just hoaxes which originated from a satirical publication.
