Origin of Story: Bill Gates Planning Microchip Implants for Coronavirus
On 19th March 2020, Biohackinfo website biohackinfo.com published an article with title “Bill Gates will use microchip implants to fight coronavirus“. It said Bill Gates revealed about the ‘digital certificates’ during a Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ session about COVID-19. It also added the ‘digital certificates’ Gates was referring to are human-implantable ‘Quantum-dot Tattoos’ researchers at MIT and Rice University are working on, to hold vaccination records.
On 28th March 2020, Tru News website shared a discussion on Facebook Live claiming ‘Gates Wants Coronavirus Patients Implanted with Quantum-Dot Tattoos‘. It said Gates wants to fund the deployment of implanted microchips and vaccines with digital capsules inside every American to track the tested and infected.
Consequently, some conspiracy websites and YouTube channels published these two stories, making the claim popular online. The claims gained more popularity after longtime ally of President Donald Trump, Roger Stone said Bill Gates may have been involved in the creation and spread of COVID-19 for “microchipping people”. Stone revealed his speculations during a radio interview on Joe Piscopo’s show.

Actual Facts
On 18th March 2020, Bill Gates in fact conducted a Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ session about COVID-19. Below is the question along with Bill Gates’ answer:
Q: What changes are we going to have to make to how businesses operate to maintain our economy while providing social distancing?
A: The question of which businesses should keep going is tricky. Certainly food supply and the health system. We still need water, electricity and the internet. Supply chains for critical things need to be maintained. Countries are still figuring out what to keep running.
Eventually we will have some digital certificates to show who has recovered or been tested recently or when we have a vaccine who has received it.
You can see, Bill Gates did not actually mention about implanting microchips or Quantum-dot tattoos. Amidst the ongoing global pandemic of Coronavirus, it was like foreseeing the future, mentioning usual digital certificates for the sake of health records. In a 10th April 2020 interview to CGTN, Bill Gates responded to the conspiracy theories. He called the allegations saying he’s the creator of the virus as Ironic. He also added the crazy rumors are because of crazy situation. Furthermore, Gates talked about dealing with the global pandemic – to find urgently a COVID-19 vaccine that’s safe, effective, and easy to produce massively.
