The video in circulation shows a person placing a dead fish inside a bottle, filling it with Coca Cola drink and then sealing it. Upon opening it, the video with Chinese titles appears to show Coca Cola dissolving the fish completely without many remains. Thus, consumers are warned drinking coca cola can dissolve their teeth and bones likewise. What you see in the video is real, but it is in fact the result of immersing the fish in coca cola for about a month.

Coca Cola Dissolves Teeth and Bones?

It’s a well-known claim that concentration of Phosphoric acid (and others) in Coca Cola dissolves your teeth and bones. There are even warning video demonstrations claiming to show what Coca Cola does to your bones. But as described in detail in our article, the claims are not entirely true.

Facts about the story “Still Drinking Coca Cola?”

The concentration of the acids in Coca Cola (phosphoric and carbonic acids) is small and cannot dissolve your teeth or bones overnight. Human digestive system is capable of coping up with normal consumption of coca cola. Moreover, like the video demonstrations relate, we do not hold the drink in our mouth (for hours or days) for the damage to occur. However, regular consumption of such soft drinks over time can in fact erode part of the outside enamel layer of our teeth. How Coca Cola Dissolves Fish?

Coming to the video in question, the one-minute footage with Chinese titles appears to have surfaced from November 2018 Chinese video shared on website v.qq.com. We also found a YouTube video in July 2017 (below one) showing the full demonstration of the fish dissolving in coca cola – in around one month’s time. Yes, the fish dissolving in coca cola does not happen in just an overnight or in few days.

The video in fact shows an experiment of placing fish in coca cola, sealed for around one month’s time. Since bones in fish are tender and so is its meat, the result is complete dissolve without much remains. FYI, there’s another myth saying Soda drinks (specifically Coca-Cola) can dissolve meat within a day or two of immersion. Again, it doesn’t happen so fast and takes many days depending on the strength of the drink and the meat.
