Some people even went on to comment such celebrities encourage others to vote, but do not vote themselves. No, the claims are not true.
Deepika Padukone Cannot Vote in India?
It is a fact that Deepika Padukone was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. But the daughter of the badminton player Prakash Padukone was raised in Bangalore and is Indian national. Contrary to the claims in question, Deepika Padukone did vote for Lok Sabha elections in India on 29th April 2019. She shared a selfie picture showing her inked finger on her Instagram account. She also shared a message refuting the rumors, adding she is proud to be an Indian. Further, she urged people to go cast their vote and do their bit for the country.
Earlier, before 2014 General Elections also, there were similar speculations about Deepika Padukone’s nationality and eligibility to vote. In response to related media questionnaire, the actress clarified she does have Indian Passport and that she will also vote in upcoming elections. Later, she was photographed after casting her vote in October 2014.
So, the claims that Deepika Padukone does not have Indian Passport and can’t vote in country’s General elections are just hoaxes.
