A viral video shared heavily online purports to show Harry Potter’s Dobby Appeared in a Creepy CCTV Footage of a U.S home Driveway. The video also appeared online claiming to show a Bizarre Alien creature caught on security camera. No, the claims are not true.
Origin of Claim
On 7th June 2019, US-based woman Vivian Gomez shared the 10 second night footage on Facebook. She questioned the identity of the mysterious white creature she allegedly found in a CCTV footage of her driveway. The thin creature carried a weird head, walking away from the property in a cocky swagger. While some viewers suggested it is an extraterrestrial alien, many wondered if the beloved Harry Potter creature Dobby appeared from nowhere. Dobby is the domestic Elf of the Harry Potter films, who tragically died in the sixth film in the franchise, “Deathly Hallows.” That’s how the claims went viral on social media and even made into some mainstream news outlets.
Harry Potter’s Dobby Appeared?
Firstly, Vivian Gomez’s Facebook post garnered hundreds and thousands of shares. In the description, she said the other two cameras in her driveway did not spot the mysterious creature for some reason. Interestingly, the woman does not have any kind of about information on her Facebook profile. After the video went viral, a Facebook user asked Vivian if she sent the video to KKTV news for investigation. Vivian Gomez said she did not send, adding if anyone tested the video or whatever they do, it would confirm it’s not altered. When Newsweek reached out to Gomez to comment on the video, they did not hear back at the time of publishing a related article on 9th June 2019.
Dobby, the free Elf in the Harry Potter films is a fictional character. The alleged CCTV footage Vivian Gomez shared on Facebook does not have any timestamp and also carries an audio, which is not common. Some viewers suggested the mysterious creature called as Dobby is a product of video editing and CGI. However, the shadow patterns of the creature appear realistic and it is visible on the car and the window on the other side just before the video ends. Moreover, when a viewer pointed presence of another person’s shadow just before the creature comes in, Vivian Gomez replied it is of the closing door. That’s not the case. The shadow belongs to another person moving in and out just before the creature appears.
Video for Marketing Something?
After Vivian Gomez shared the video on Facebook, Twitter user Jey Bee shared it followed by a link to her YouTube channel. Jey Bee is a model, brand ambassador and YouTuber. A day before on 6th June, the video also appeared on – a new YouTube channel with user name Jacqueline Ramirez. The user described it as an ‘Alien in my friends driveway‘.
To Conclude
Considering the aforementioned facts and flaws, the video probably shows some kid wearing a costume resembling Harry Potter’s Dobby character. Full screen view of the video appears to show the all-white ‘creature’ wearing underwear kind of costume. Certainly, the video does not show Dobby, the fictional character of Harry Potter films.
