It claims to show Manmohan Singh had to take permission from Rahul Gandhi before he leads his hand in cutting the cake. No, the claims are not true.
Not Manmohan Singh Cutting Birthday Cake
The claims in question are doing rounds widely on Twitter, Facebook and other online platforms. In fact, they are doing rounds since December 2018. Messages accompanying the video say Manmohan Singh does not even have the authority to cut his own b’day cake. They also raise question how he ran government for 10 years.
Despite the claims, what you see in the video is not birthday celebrations of former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The celebratory incident is from Congress party’s foundation Day on 27th December 2018. Many media outlets reported the celebrations of Congress party’s 134th foundation day. Official YouTube channel of Indian National Congress also shared the video showing Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi cutting the cake together and sharing it later.
So, the messages claiming the former PM Manmohan Singh is not even free to cut his own birthday cake are not true. Looks like, Rahul Gandhi is leading the cake cutting out of courtesy for the senior Congressman.
