Rahul Gandhi is the President of the Indian National Congress, and Pappu in Hindi means naive or dumb. The video shows Narendra Modi bringing a child on stage, carrying her and encouraging her to say on mike that “Rahul Gandhi Pappu Hain”. After the girl says so, Modi applauds her patting on head while the crowd cheers clapping. The video is shared on social media commenting Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown disgrace by doing so with a small child, publicly. Despite the claims, what you see in the video is not true.

The video appeared online in early November 2018, circulating widely on social media sites, especially Facebook. Viewers who believed in the story were surprised and shocked before going on to share it with others. However, what you see in the video is an old video doctored for the fake story.

During a rally in Navsari City of Gujarat, Narendra Modi celebrated his 66th birthday on 17 September 2016. He interacted with some differently abled people and gave them special aid kits. After handing her a Braille kit, Modi interacted with the Class 1 student Gauri Shardul. Then he escorted her to speak on mike and actually made her recite Ramayana for the audience. The girl introduces herself saying her and her parents’ names before reciting a Ramayana rendition. The Prime Minister and the audience cheered the little girl. Impressed with her on his birthday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared the video of the small girl on Twitter.
